F-35 PR?

Is this just straight up PR for the F-35?  Wonder what the true story is.  I do tend to believe that the F-35 may be more effective that was originally thought, as all new weapons systems have initial operational problems.

What are the odds this thing is a movie prop built on a barge?  Is it just me, or does that sub look incredibly small?

The F-21

No, not the Kfir in US service.  Apparently Lockheed Martin is offering India an upgraded version of the F-16 Block 70 as the F-21.  Frankly, I think it is smart marketing on LM’s part to re-designate the aircraft.  I will be interested to see if India selects this over the MiG-35 being offered by Russia.  US-India relations have been warming over the years, and this would indicate a definite shift toward the US.  As China continues to flex its muscles, this only makes sense for the US and India to cooperate more fully on defense issues.

It looks like the USAF is actually going to buy 80 F-15Xs over the next 5 years.  This seems to make a lot of sense to me.  I suspect it will spur other countries who aren’t yet ready to upgrade to the F-35 to buy the F-15Xs.

A good Supreme Court decision

The latest from the Supremes.

The Court of Last Resort

The Supreme Court just ruled that the Eighth Amendment prohibition against excessive fines applies to the states through incorporation via the 14th Amendment, thought the justices split on whether the due process or the privileges and immunities clause was the vehicle for incorporation.  It was a 9-0 decision with Justice Ginsburg writing for the court.  Opinion here.

The government is making a substantial investment in the Jamaica Defense Forces facilities.  The biggest part of this is the completion of the new barracks near the Montego Bay airport.
