Something is broken

with the US Navy procurement system. (Army and Air Force too)  This needs to get fixed now.  We are going to have lean budgets ahead.  We can’t afford to continue pouring money down a rat hole.  If this isn’t fixed now, it will eventually cost lives down the road.

  1. Couldn’t agree more. The Ford is non-deployable, and there is not even a guess as to when she might be. The three Zumwalt DDGs do not have guns that work even though the lead ship has been in service for (three?) years now. NONE of the LCS have deployed in the last year, they have mechanical issues and are not capable of performing ANY of the primary Surface Warfare missions even if everything worked. Huge embarrassment, there should be consequences for all involved starting with Congress. You won’t fix this until you fix Congress.

  2. Agree, but I don’t think congress gets fixed any time soon.

  3. It would take at least three Constitutional Amendments IMHO. Congress would be unlikely to initiate any of them themselves, the people would have to do it.

  4. It would required at least a term limits amendment and a balanced budget amendment.

  5. I was thinking those two plus campaign finance reform. Then you’d have a shot at making some progress on real issues.

  6. Campaign finance reform is tough due to other constitutional considerations. Even if you enacted public financing of campaigns, you couldn’t constitutionally forbid outside expenditures due to the petition clause of the first amendment.

  7. Couldn’t that be modified or clarified with an Amendment? Like ending prohibition?
