If only it wasn’t Valom

I am a huge fan of the Blackburn Firebrand.  I have no idea why, other than it looks cool.  I’ve wanted this kit forever, but it isn’t in production, and is very rare.  A new kit of the Firebrand has been announced.  That should gladden my heart.  If only it wasn’t Valom.

What the heck is happening to the USN?

Frankly, more and more it seems as if the Navy is beset by institutional rot.  Latest example here.  After the LCS  and DDG-1000 debacles, at some point you have to believe that the problem is more than just programmatic.  These problems take years to set in, and they’ll take years to fix.  We best be getting on fixing them now!

In the words of Instapundit; Faster, please.  I’ve said here before that the fact that we are using Russian spacecraft to transport our astronauts is a national embarrassment. It needs to end.  It is clear that only private companies have any hope of ending it quickly.  NASA seems to bureaucratic to do so. The same is true for getting back to the moon. This seems logical

Story here.  Given that the USCG ships operate far from home waters in some very dangerous places, it isn’t a bad idea to give them an ability to defend themselves if the balloon goes up and they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Ouch

Now this may be the classiest take down ever.  Someone call the burn unit.  This only raises my estimation of Gen. Mattis.

More Venezuela news.  While a tank of gas for a few pennies, sounds great, the economic distortions brought about by the government are why folks are having to pay with food stuffs.  Que Lastima!

Ain’t technology great

I suspect we will be seeing many more stories like this in the future.  The average citizen has amazingly powerful technology at their fingertips now. It won’t always be used for good, but it will be capable of a lot of good.

Not stealth

I understand how this works.  It isn’t anything new and it doesn’t grant invisibility.  However it is still cool to look at.

Corporate Aggressors

The USAF and USN have contracted out the aggressor role  for their air combat training.  Seven different companies have been given contracts for the work.  They have a wide variety of aircraft.  Some great modeling subjects for the future.

I love Russian aircraft.  Post WWII Russian aircraft, to be more precise.  I have little knowledge of WWII Russian aircraft.  However, I do know that what I have seen from Arma so far has impressed me.  Thus, I’ll pick up this kit.
