Small thinking

In this story, the plans of the ESA and NASA are discussed in regard to getting samples of Martian soil back here for study….by 2031.  This is the perfect example of the small thinking that infects NASA. By 2031, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos will have people on Mars, while the government spaceflight agencies diddle around. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

  1. It is interesting how we are heralding the end of manned fighters while boosting manned space travel. I’m far from an expert in the problem but it seems to me the hardest thing (other than the distances, the energy needed to get to the required speeds and the energy to slow things down) is how to safely transport humans. It may be we can get a lot more exploration and knowledge bang for our buck with better and better robots than we would sending the odd human up there.

  2. Robots are essential for space exploration. However, the ultimate goal of our steps into space is for humanity to spread itself through the galaxy and to get us off this one rock where humanity could be wiped out by a single asteroid or disease.
