Thanks to Twitter, I learned a piece of history today. I had never heard of this unit or their fight against the Fugo balloons. Amazing.

Yes, I knew about them and their fire-fighting mission, along with the all black bomber squadron that was supposedly a sister unit of sorts to the Tuskegee Airmen. I had a college prof (accounting)that was a former Tuskegee Airman, and one of my history profs helped them with their reunions. Great guys. I grew up surrounded by WWI, WWII, and Korean war vets, valorous men were commonplace in my life. Our world is a lesser place for their passing and I think the sorry, pathetic state of our current society reflects their absence.
