Have we broken our military?

Given some recent troubles in the US Navy, combined with this story about Ft. Bragg, one is left to wonder if we haven’t broken our military forces.

  1. Don’t even get me started David. I could go on for days.

  2. I could write quite a bit here, but some folks could potentially get in trouble for it. I’ll save it for an in person get together, which I hope will happen one day.

  3. Our military has been broken for quite a while. The high suicide rate among service members is particularly problematic, and even a glance at the facts surrounding Bowe Bergdahl and Chelsea Manning indicate that command climates and key processes are broken.

  4. Steve I completely agree. And these are dangerous times.

  5. I’m proud I served, even in a part-time capacity. For many years my son wanted to, but then decided against it. I was initially disappointed, but in the last ten years or so, I’m SO glad he didn’t chose to. Our military no longer resembles anything I once knew.

  6. I too served, but am nonetheless extremely hesitant to commend a military career to a young person today, with the possible exception of an individual particularly focused on flying, nuclear power, or other unique training opportunities. Both of my sons are now at the far end of or beyond the eligible age range for military service, and I am grateful that they were never subjected to our currently broken military system.
