Weekend notes

When the zombie apocalypse comes, the thing I will miss the most about modern living will be Grandma Merrick’s mississippi mud/no-bake cookies. (I was originally introduced to these by my Grandmother Merrick who called them “wheat fudge” even though there is no wheat product in them.)

UPDATE:  My grandmother was a lunch lady at Seneca High School in the 60s and 70s.  Over the weekend my mother, the modelmom, told me the reason my grandmother called them “wheat fudge” is that the public schools used bulgar wheat instead of oats to make Mississippi Mud, or Wheat Fudge.  OK , that makes sense, and knowning the public schools, the wheat was probably cheaper than oats.

These things are the best and I was struck with the urge to make a batch tonight.  They are cooling as I type.  These may be the world’s greatest survival food, packing enough calories and nutrients to keep someone going for days. (Although to really enjoy them you need a glass of really cold milk!)

The modelwife is ready to kick Al Gore’s ass.  Louisville today didn’t get above 70 degrees with the normal average for this day of the year being about 90.  No pool today.  Pretty day, if cool and windy.

Instead of our normal MMCL third Thursday meeting, last night we had a “quarterly MMCL Friday Night Fight building session.  It was awesome, as always, thought I didn’t get much building done.  Too much comedy going on.
