As I mentioned on a previous episode of the Plastic Model Mojo podcast, I had found a company making resin WWII Japanese bombs.  I ordered one of each of their sets and they arrived yesterday.  A review will follow. (h/t Jeff “Inch High” Groves, who spotted them in stock at HLJ.) Here is a Wikipedia article on the different types of Japanese WWII bombs.

Story here.  I didn’t know that the British dumped the ordinance there.  I would have thought they’d have taken it to a deeper part of the ocean.

The USAF is still testing an developing aircraft dropped nuclear weapons.  Story here.  While an air dropped nuke may seem anachronistic in this day and age, it is worth keeping more options available.  The more options we have, the less chance we end up having to use one of them.

Photo here.  Photo of the USS Savannah in the immediate aftermath of getting hit by a German Fritz X bomb.  An amazingly-well timed photo.

EMP weapons

I’ve always believed that any all out attack on the US would begin with a powerful EMP inducing nuclear blast high in the atmosphere over the US.  This report suggests a number of nations are developing such weapons.  China would obviously be the biggest concern.

My original post is here.

Here is another photo.  Note there are two distinct types of these in this photo.  I suspect their use varied with the size and weight of the bomb.  Also, the tractor in the background is interesting.

The USAF is upgrading its “bunker buster” bombs.  I predict we’ll test these in Afghanistan soon and I’ll be interested to see if we supply them to the Israelis as well.
