A charity wants to acquire the retired USS Nassau (LHA-4), a retired Tarawa class assault landing ship and convert it into a mobile disaster relief ship.  This seems like a good idea to me and one the government and the USN should support.  In addition to all the good work it could do, the ability to call the ship back into service on short notice would be a benefit to the navy.

You shouldn’t publish columns looking down on other cities, especially when they are the hometown of award winning humorists.  Take it away, Dave Barry.

Though it took me almost 15 years to do so (it’s a long story), I finally got to go to what is billed as the largest bookstore in Florida.  Haslam’s (I do note that as of this posting, their website doesn’t seem to ahve been updated in a month or two.)  It was a very nice, well organized mostly used bookstore.  I was hoping to find some bargins, but most books, even the used ones were priced at current retail.  They did have a particularly good Florida section, as you might expect.
