Looks like things continue to be hot on the border, but it doesn’t seem like they are escalating.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

India and Pakistan are shooting at each other.  At least one Indian MiG-21 appears to have been downed.  Pakistani JL-17s may have been involved.  When two countries with nukes start shooting at each other, we should all get worried.

The F-21

No, not the Kfir in US service.  Apparently Lockheed Martin is offering India an upgraded version of the F-16 Block 70 as the F-21.  Frankly, I think it is smart marketing on LM’s part to re-designate the aircraft.  I will be interested to see if India selects this over the MiG-35 being offered by Russia.  US-India relations have been warming over the years, and this would indicate a definite shift toward the US.  As China continues to flex its muscles, this only makes sense for the US and India to cooperate more fully on defense issues.

India has produced its own SSBN.  This is an interesting development.  Not sure its rival Pakistan will be able to follow suit.

I am pretty sure I posted on this before, but it appears that the Russians will not be mass  producing the Su-57.  No matter how they try to spin it, this clearly indicates two things. 1. The Russians are broke. 2. The Su-57 was clearly not the world beater that its manufacturer claimed.

Indian SSBNs

I was unaware that India possessed any SSBNs.  Apparently they have one undergoing sea trials and a second has just been launched.  India appears to be getting assistance from Russia in building the subs, thought the design appears to be a uniquely India design.  Story here.  So far I don’t think anyone has made a kit of this sub.  Thanks to friend of the blog Jeff Groves for passing along the info.

I previously noted that the Russians had announced they were only going to build 12 T-50s, down from a planned 52.

Here are a couple of more reports hinting at the issues that the T-50 is having.
