The US is exerting more influence to tighten the sanctions on Iran.  Latest here.  The US needs to continue to press other countries to takes these actions.  The same goes for North Korea.  The common thread in this is that China is assisting in thwarting these sanctions.  There is where the real screw tightening needs to occur.

Question here.  Iran simply doesn’t have the ability to project its military power much beyond its borders except thru the use of terrorist proxies.

that maybe the Straight of Hormuz is the new world hot spot, the Chinese do something to bring the focus back to the South China Sea.  It is hideously expensive, but this is why the US needs a world class navy.

The Persian Gulf may be moving up the list of world hot spots.  It may even now be above the South China Sea in the likelihood of shooting breaking out.

This is interesting.  It also makes one wonder about all of the criticism that the F-35 has received.

Flashpoint

While I’ve mainly been focused on the South China Sea as a potential flashpoint, it appears things are heating up in the gulf of Oman.  First, several Saudi tankers were sabotaged.  Then some Iranian boats caught fire. Now two tankers have been attacked.  This could get real hot, real fast.

I recently joked about the new Fateh class of Iranian submarine. I speculated there was a 50/50 chance it was a mock up built on an under water barge.  Here is some more information on it. (again, h/t to Jeff Groves for the pointer to this site.)
