Not to laugh. Managed to do it with 50 year old technology.

Here is more of this story.

Strange air to air kills, that is.

Iran’s “home produced” fighter

Story here.  Iran is in a very poor state.  Given their situation, the fact that they can even remanufacture old F-5s is something, but not much.

Iran

Not only can’t Iran get its rockets to work, now they are trying to pass off a child’s costume off as a space suit. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I am sure is looking down and laughing.)

Iran won’t be firing missiles at Israel anytime soon

At least not until they get their rockets to work.  Story here.  While space launch failures usually sadden me, I can’t say that this story brings anything but joy to my little heart. (h/t Jeff “Inch High” Groves)(post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

Iran 1 Airliner 0

Looks like Iran may have shot down the Ukrainian Airlines 737.  The pentagon says an SA-15 Gauntlet was the missile involved.  It is criminally stupid to allow airliners to be flying while your air defenses are on high alert.

UPDATE: There now appears to be video evidence to confirm that the airliner was hit by a missile.

Like a scene from the new Top Gun movie

I love this story so much.  Can you imagine being one of the Iranian pilots?  You’d need to go home and change your flight suit.

Sword missiles

It appears that the US has adapted the Hellfire missile to carry sword blades that deploy instead of explosives.  Guided weapons have gotten so accurate that explosives aren’t always needed.  This reminds me of my favorite weapon concept, the “Rods from God”  Frankly the US should deploy this if they can figure how to get a lot of weight into orbit cheaply enough.  It could solve the Iran/North Korea bunker problems (h/t to Jeff “Inch High” Groves for a reminder about the article above)

Tightening the screws

The US is exerting more influence to tighten the sanctions on Iran.  Latest here.  The US needs to continue to press other countries to takes these actions.  The same goes for North Korea.  The common thread in this is that China is assisting in thwarting these sanctions.  There is where the real screw tightening needs to occur.

Yes, next question

Question here.  Iran simply doesn’t have the ability to project its military power much beyond its borders except thru the use of terrorist proxies.
