The more I read the more I am for selling NASA to SpaceX for a $1. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

The ISS is getting a new Russian science module.  The interesting part to me is that instead of adding to the ISS, the old science module will be detached and de-orbited.(post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

I noted here that the Chinese had launch their first manned space mission in 5 years. The three man crew successfully reached the Chinese space station module.  The race is on. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

The space race is on.  China just launched the first three astronauts to the first module of their space station.  They will spend the next few years constructing it.  China is serious and we need to be too. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

Space is an inherently dangerous place.  This was demonstrated in a small way by this story.  In addition, the story contains a nice summary of Canada’s space contributions.

They did it again.  This time with a used booster and a used capsule.  SpaceX is making space a bunch cheaper. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who is up there somewhere, smiling.)

Finally, I am living in the time of routine commercial spaceflight.  I thought I would see this after 1969. Never imagined it would be 50 years later. Latest story here. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I am sure would be as pleased as I am.)

Space Radishes

Radishes have been grown and consumed on the ISS for the first time.  This is the first time any vegetable other than leafy greens have been grown and consumed in space.  Success here hold out hope that long term spaceflight can be at least partially sustained by in transit farming. Sitting here watching the Dragon Crew-1 capsule docking with the ISS.  Missing Mike Nofsinger and wishing I could be sharing this joy.  I know he and I would be texting back and forth.

US manned space flight

The US is officially back in the manned space flight business now that NASA has certified the SpaceX Dragon capsule for regular use.  Story here. The first regular launch carrying 3 US and 1 Japanese astronaut for NASA and JAXA respectively is scheduled to take place tomorrow night at 7:49 p.m.

Even more interestingly, next year SpaceX will fly an entirely private crew to the ISS for a company called Axiom Space.  Story here. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I so wish was still around to talk to him about all this.)
