They did it again.  This time with a used booster and a used capsule.  SpaceX is making space a bunch cheaper. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who is up there somewhere, smiling.)

Finally, I am living in the time of routine commercial spaceflight.  I thought I would see this after 1969. Never imagined it would be 50 years later. Latest story here. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I am sure would be as pleased as I am.)

Space Radishes

Radishes have been grown and consumed on the ISS for the first time.  This is the first time any vegetable other than leafy greens have been grown and consumed in space.  Success here hold out hope that long term spaceflight can be at least partially sustained by in transit farming. Sitting here watching the Dragon Crew-1 capsule docking with the ISS.  Missing Mike Nofsinger and wishing I could be sharing this joy.  I know he and I would be texting back and forth.

US manned space flight

The US is officially back in the manned space flight business now that NASA has certified the SpaceX Dragon capsule for regular use.  Story here. The first regular launch carrying 3 US and 1 Japanese astronaut for NASA and JAXA respectively is scheduled to take place tomorrow night at 7:49 p.m.

Even more interestingly, next year SpaceX will fly an entirely private crew to the ISS for a company called Axiom Space.  Story here. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I so wish was still around to talk to him about all this.)

Cool space news.. with a Louisville connection

Story here.  It is a shame that this will be a non-crewed vehicle as a crewed version would be really neat.  We are entering the heyday of private spaceflight, and that is a good thing. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

Looks like the first full crew launch of the Dragon capsule will be in October due to a lot of other missions to the ISS in September.  Three NASA and one JAXA astronaut will be on board.  Can’t wait to see it. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

SpaceX has done it.  The US is now back in the manned spaceflight business.  Looks like the first regular flight to the ISS in the Dragon capsule will be in September and will have 3 NASA astronauts and 1 JAXA astronaut. No more paying the Russians $70 million a seat.  Next stop, the moon and Mars. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I have not doubt is really, really happy.)

An online event celebrating spaceflight and space exploration.  I can guaranty that, were he still with us, Mike Nofsinger would be glued to his computer/TV watching this. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)
