Iran looks like it is pushing to pick a fight. Note at the end of the story the bit about the drone.

Russia, which readers know I think is a impotent force as far as its military goes, has unveiled a new aircraft carrier design.  As the article points out, the design will most likely never be built and Russia’s one and only carrier is out of commission and probably headed for scrapping.  Russia’s 2017 GDP was $1.58 trillion dollars, which is less than Canada’s $1.6 trillion and paltry compared to the USA’s $22 trillion.  Russia simply can’t keep a world class military going, and what they have is simply wasting away.

that maybe the Straight of Hormuz is the new world hot spot, the Chinese do something to bring the focus back to the South China Sea.  It is hideously expensive, but this is why the US needs a world class navy.

Movie review: The Philadelphia Experiment (2012)

Do Not Watch This Movie.  It is an hour and a half of your life that you will never get back.  The acting is uniformly bad.  The script is bad. (The dialog makes George Lucas look like Shakespeare.)  The movie, of course, centers around the rumors/conspiracy theory of the WWII experiment on the USS Eldridge.  A degaussing experiment on the ship goes wrong, rendering the ship invisible and also transporting it thru space and time.  In this version, in the current day, a lab conducting similar experiments based off the original ones open a portal which brings the original ship back from when it disappeared in 1943.  The details of the rest of the plot don’t matter, because, have I mentioned, this movie is BAD.  Don’t watch it.  Go model.  (One interesting piece of trivia.  There have been two movie adaptions of the Philadelphia Experiment, his one and one from 1984.  One actor, Michael Pere is on both movies.)

The Persian Gulf may be moving up the list of world hot spots.  It may even now be above the South China Sea in the likelihood of shooting breaking out.

More great news from the region most likely to start a hot war.  The Chinese have put anti-ship missiles on the man-made islands in the South China Sea.  This was the inevitable end of the Chinese behavior in the region.  Where do we go from here?  Who knows?

Putin is at it again.  In reality, Russia has little power to do anything but complain and make empty gestures as the US and its NATO allies deploy more equipment into Poland and the Baltics.

US Navy railgun?

Looks like this might happen after all.  Previous rumors that the USN was moving away from this technology may have either been wrong or deliberate misinformation.
