The latest issue of RT is out, and it has coverage of the IPMS Nats in Omaha.  While this particular issue is a little light on 72nd scale modeling, it is still, as always worth a read.  These are very nice articles on building the Eduard 48th scale Ki-115 and the Koster Vacform G3M2.  I read the issue from cover to cover.

I’ll start off this review where I end most of my RT reviews.  Highly recommended.  Well, now that we have that out of the way, I’ll give you a peek inside this issue.

As usual, there is an emphasis on Canadian content, but not to the exclusion of other subject.  In this issue, for the 72nd scale fan, there is a build article on doing a RAF Victor B.2.  There is also a nice article on building a 72nd Voodoo, using, unusually, a Matchbox F-101B.

On the non-72nd front there is a nice armor build article by IPMS/USA’s outgoing 2nd VP, Ron Bell.  There is also an article on a Ju-52 on floats and a Hungarian SPG build.

As a super-dooper bonus, there are decals in 72nd and 48th for Canadian F-101s.

I know I am repeating myself when I say that RT, the magazine of IPMS/Canada and the Journal, the magazine of IPMS/USA are the two best modeling magazines out there today, but it is true.  That should embarrass the publishers of the “for-profit” magazines, but it doesn’t seem to.  If I were a publisher of one of those magazines I’d be offering the editors of RT and the Journal a job and would be scouring every issue in order to recruit new writing talent.  Luckily for the members of IPMS no one in the professional magazine industry seems to be that smart, so we will go on benefiting from their lack of initiative.

This issue of RT, oddly enough, has all but one of its major articles written by American members of IPMS/Canada.  I know that folks in the states make up a significant minority of IPMS/Canada members.  However, they seem to be holding up their end of the deal by contributing articles to RT.  In fact, one of the articles is by the 2nd VP of IPMS/USA, Ron Bell, who has been a long time member of IPMS/Canada as well.

For the 72nd scale modeler, there isn’t a lot in this issue.  There are a set of decals for Canadian Mustang I in 72nd, 48th and 32nd scale.  Also there is Ron Bell’s article on building a 72nd scale Canadian armored car and an article on converting a B-17 to a civilian post-war photo-mapping version.  As usual the issue is a class act, from beginning to end.

Yes, it is another RT review.  As I have said before I get these posts up as I get a chance.  See my review of the last issue of RT for my general praise for the magazine.

This issue has several nice bits for the 72nd scale modeler.  It has a build of one of my favorite aircraft, the Boeing 40B-4 using the wonderful CMR kit.  There is also the first part of a wonderful conversion of a Hasegawa 72nd TBM to one of the versions used by the RCN.

In addition there are several other articles of interest to the modeler of all things Canadian.  RT continues to keep its Canadian focus.  Given its membership base, I continue to be amazed at the quality of this product.
