4 NASA astronauts recently went to SpaceX’s Texas facility to see the latest Starship prototype. Clearly NASA understands that their future is tied to SpaceX. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

I know I have said it before, but thank God for SpaceX and Elon Musk.  Single-handedly they are driving us back into space. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

SpaceX has launched another 60 Starlink satellites.  The plan is to provide worldwide satellite broadband access.  Apparently, you can already sign up to beta test the service.  It is reportedly pretty good.   In a rare miss, the booster failed to land on the recovery ship.  That booster had already flown 6 previous times.  Amazing.

A really nice article analyzing China’s space ambitions as well as the competition from other regional powers. If you read between the lines there are some real opportunities for the US to engage in cooperation in this arena with other non-Chinese space agencies. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

Frankly, it feels like I post about SpaceX once a week.  I probably do.  However, that is really due to the continued success the company has in driving the US space program forward. In the latest instance, SpaceX has been chosen by NASA to launch the components of the “lunar gateway”, a small space station to orbit around the moon.  The launches are scheduled for 2024. Thank gosh Elon must is, because the US government doesn’t seem to be. China has a probe and lander approaching Mars. (Post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

SpaceX launched their Starship SN9 test vehicle on a 10km high test flight.  All went according to plan until the landing, which for the second time ended in an explosion.  Looks like they are having the same teething troubles they had trying to land the first stage of the Falcon rockets.  I hope they get the problems ironed out, and soon.

Finally, I am living in the time of routine commercial spaceflight.  I thought I would see this after 1969. Never imagined it would be 50 years later. Latest story here. (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger, who I am sure would be as pleased as I am.)
