2018 Total time: 6.73 hrs.

OK, I lied.  I promised a photo to go with the next post.  However, most of the work I did on the T-33 was drybrushing the cockpit and attaching one of the wing tanks.  Nothing exciting.  Nothing that would merit a photo.  That said, I promise a photo with the next post.  I also promise something longer and more interesting.

More work on the Platz T-33.  Doing cockpit details.  I have found that as I get older, my tolerance for doing detail work has gotten much less.  I can only go about an hour before my back and eyes hurt too much.  I did get some non-detail assembly done as well.  Updated photos with the next post, I promise.

Continued work on the Platz T-33.  Concentrated on the cockpit even thought this model will ultimately end up in a display case with the canopy closed.  I am using this as an opportunity to experiment and try and learn and stretch my skills.

No photos this post.  Worked on the Platz T-33.  Nothing special. Sanding on the wing tanks.  Trying to eliminate the seam lines.  It is amazing how much of modeling is just simple work that doesn’t show as progress until later.  However, Skippy has taught me that putting in the time to pay attention to the details pays off in the end.  More to come….

2018 Total time: 3.85 hrs

A great modeling day.  Friend of the blog Scott “Skippy” King stopped by for some modeling and a libation.  While Skippy worked on the RS Bloch 152, I continued working on the Platz T-33.  It turns out that disregarding the kit instructions was the correct move.  I test fit the fuselage halves and they fit beautifully when assembled as described in the last post.  I test fit the fuselage to the wings and they appear to fit beautifully as well.

I sprayed the cockpit interior with Mr. Color RLM 66.  This was my first time spraying this paint, thought I’d heard good things about it.  I must say it sprayed very well. I will be interested to use it again in the future.

A little more work on the Platz T-33.  The model is molded with the front and rear sections of the fuselage molded as seperate pieces. Instead of the usual two piece fuselage, you have four.  The instructions would have you assemble the front and rear sections of the fuselage to each other and then join the completed front fuselage piece to the rear piece.  Having been thru this with other kits, I’ve found this assembly method can cause problems.  Also, fellow modeler Jim Bates told me he had problems with the kit not fitting correctly using the assembly method recommended by the instructions.

Therefore I chose to assemble the front and rear of each fuselage half together and then join the two complete halves later.

Time 10:00 p.m. to 10:45 (.75hrs)

Total time: .75 hrs

I’ve done this in years past, but always quit doing it at some point during the year.  As part of my attempt to be more committed to modeling this year, I am reviving the tradition.  Starting the year I have a Platz T-33 that I have committed to build for a group display at a museum halfway across the country.  Like many models I build, I have not followed the instructions, building the wings and wing tanks first.  This will end up in Canadian markings, but I haven’t decided which ones yet.

Jim previously sent me photos of a Sea Hawk and the new Sword T-33 that he is working on.  I meant to post if before now, but just didn’t get around to it.
