#29

TIme: 15 hours

2018 Total time: 48.163

The modelwife and kids went on vacation and left me alone for a week.  I decided to attempt a “Geldmacher Blitz” (a build of a kit from 6 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday.  While I failed in my attempt to get a model completed in that time, I was able to finish the Tamiya A6M2 by the time my family returned from vacation.  For purposes of keeping track I lumped this all into one build session even though it stretched over 9 days and the 15 hour total is a guestimate.  I will do a first half of the year roundup in my next post.

Tamiya Ki-61

This looks good, but we have a lot of good Ki-61 kits in 72nd scale.  I’ll get it, but I’d have rather had some other aircraft.

Tamiya White Tape

Last year on a business trip to Denver, I picked up Tamiya White tape at Colpar Hobbies.  (Colpar is great BTW.  Well worth the visit.)  The other night I finally got to try it out.  I highly recommend it.  It works exactly as advertised, masking around curves and even compound curves like nose cones.  Get some.  You won’t regret it.

Tamiya A6M5

I finished it.  Given my slow building speed, this one was practically a speed build.  A big part of that is that it is the best engineered kit I’ve ever built.  Bar none.  I buggered the canopy, but that wasn’t the kit’s fault, but rather I haven’t done a greenhouse canopy in so long I forgot some basic skills.

Here it is.
