Tragedy

The slowly unfolding man-made tragedy that is Venezuela is horrible.  Sadly, I get the impression that many of the people in Venezuela are waiting for someone to come rescue them.  While I have no problem with the US providing logistical support to those Venezuelans looking to overthrow their current government, I do not want to see the US become directly involved.  We’ve got to stop going out and rescuing people who’ve gotten themselves into these types of situations.

It appears that Russian troops may have been deployed to Venezuela, though for exactly what purpose isn’t clear.  There are many Cuban troops already in the country, and it is alleged that they are keeping Maduro in power.

As protests continue, this story highlights some of the human cost of socialism.  BUT, never forget, a majority of the Venezuelans brought this on themselves by buying into all the promises socialists made. Promises of an easier life and a guaranty that the government would take care of them.  They always promise this.  They never deliver.

This report suggests that Maduro may be losing his grip on his internal security force.  IMHO, that is the only way he will be deposed.  Time will tell.

Things are developing quickly in Venezuela.  It is unclear if this is the beginning of the end of Maduro or if he can hold onto power.  I hope the former.

Failed mutiny?

As regular readers know, I have a special interest in watching the developments in Venezuela.  I’ve predicted for a while now that the situation cannot last and that either internal or external pressure would build and bring down the government.  Apparently an abortive uprising of national guardsmen has been put down.  I will be interested to see if this is the spark of a new revolt or the crushing of one in its cradle.

Just heart-wrenching.  How many times does man need to learn the lesson of socialism’s failures?

Another story on the slow motion disaster that is Venezuela.  This has potential to cause real problems in neighboring countries.  I would not be surprised to see several of them band together to depose the current government simply to stem the refugee tide. (BTW, when you’ve lost the left-leaning BBC, you know your socialist government won’t last much longer.)

Punch a socialist

When you read the stories coming out of Venezuela like this and this, you just want to punch the next idiot who says anything good about socialism. Don’t do it, but I understand the impulse.
