War films

Here is a list of war films the writer considers “great”.  Frankly, with the exception of Apocalypse Now, I agree. (Apocalypse Now has some great scenes, but I’d argue it isn’t a great movie.)  I’d move Das Boot up from an honorable mention.

  1. I liked his honorable mentions more than some on his list, particularly Das Boot and A Bridge Too Far. Rescue Dawn was not great IMHO, a good story but it did not translate well into film. And where is The Longest Day, Kelly’s Heroes, The Eagle Has Landed, and Where Eagles Dare? Sands of Iwo Jima? Got to have some Sgt. Stryker!

  2. Kelly’s Heroes is fun, but IMHO not a great war film. I agree about Das Boot and The Longest Day.

  4. Maybe we can make a deal. What kind of deal? You know, a deal, deal. Maybe they’re Republicans.
