on October 30th, 1965, the largest man-made explosion in history occurred when the Soviet Union detonated the Tsar Bomba, a Hydrogen bomb that yielded between 50 and 58 megatons. (sources differ)  The explosion was so powerful, the shockwave travelled through the earth and bounced back twice.

Even though it was an air burst, it left a huge crater.

For comparison, the largest US nuclear test explosion was the Ivy Mike test, which yielded 10.4 megatons. (that explosion was over twice as large as it was meant to be, due to a miscalculation by the scientists involved, and if the words miscalculation and nuclear together don’t scare you, you haven’t been paying attention.)

If you want to compare how big the Tsar Bomba explosion was compared to Fat Man and Little Boy, you can nuke any place on Earth (virtually, of course) using the website Nukemap.  They have the Tsar Bomba as a pre-programed choice.

Actually, there is a kit of the Tsar Bomba.  I am in the process of adding it to my nuke collection.

Amodel Tsar Bomba with a Brengun MXY-7 Ohka for scale.  Clearly the Russians weren’t worried about making it compact.

A USAF RC-135 nuke sniffer was flying off the coast when the Tsar Bomba was dropped.  This is a photo they took of the mushroom cloud.

I believe this

Story here.  While it is possible that Epstein killed himself, given the many powerful people he could implicate in his crimes, I am more than willing to believe he was murdered.  The sad thing is I think those that had the power to pull off such a murder also have the power to keep the truth of it from coming out.

I love this story

I am deeply interested in stuff like this.  I know there is a lot of stuff that isn’t general knowledge, but I’d love to know what the government and military aren’t telling us.

Question here.  Iran simply doesn’t have the ability to project its military power much beyond its borders except thru the use of terrorist proxies.

Its back.  Regular readers know I am very interested in the X-37B.  Like many people I don’t buy that it is just being used for research.  When will the next one launch? (post in memory of Mike Nofsinger)

Canada’s recent elections seem to show it every bit as divided as the US.  Will there be a Wexit?

Welcome to this installment of I want that kit.  This is today’s entry.  Not my normal area, but cool nonetheless.
