Leverage

Pigs, it turns out, could lead to the denuclearization of North Korea.  The present US administration has made a resolution of the North Korea problem one of its top priorities.  North Korea teeters on the edge of starvation, at least for the vast majority of its population.  Now, North Korea has apparently been hit with “pig ebola” that has already struck neighboring China.  North Korea gets 80% of its protein from pork.  If this hits North Korea as hard as it has hit China, then it may provide an opening for the US to trade pigs for denuclearization.  Time will tell.

The Army wants artillery that can fire at targets up to 1000 miles away.  Story here.  I am skeptical that it can be done, but if it can be, it would change warfare in some fundamental ways.

Still playing with nukes

The USAF is still testing an developing aircraft dropped nuclear weapons.  Story here.  While an air dropped nuke may seem anachronistic in this day and age, it is worth keeping more options available.  The more options we have, the less chance we end up having to use one of them.

Don’t fish off the company pier

Why, oh why, do people still insist on becoming involved with co-workers?  It inevitably leads to thinks like this and now both individuals have lost their lucrative jobs.  For the pilot particularly, he has probably flushed all that training and experience down the toilet, as no sane airline will ever employ him.  Good gosh what poor judgment, not to mention the complete cowardice of hitting a woman.

Common sense

You don’t see that often these days, but I generally find Andy McCarthy’s thoughts to be full of common sense thinking. One example here.

UPDATE: Here is a nice background on the Kurds.

More to the story

There has to be more to this story. Drugs? Alcohol?  Something else?

They need us…

…more than we need them.  This has been obvious for a while now, but only in the current administration have we begun to use this leverage.  It discomforts many companies in the US with strong interests in China (i.e. NBA, Nike) but that should not be our governments concern.

I had never heard of this program before now.  Interesting technology, though sometimes I think that the defense industry does some things just to prove it can rather than being a real increase in capability.
